In my classroom environment, students are able to have access to a variety of tools to help them be successful and recall learned skills. Students are able to independently select elements of the room that will aid in problem solving when reading, writing, and completing math problems.

Two students got a special surprise. Mom and Ms. O worked together to surprise two twin brothers with the best Christmas gift - their older brother!

After students learned about how inventions help find solutions to every day problems, part of our new Read180 curriculum, students visited the Hall of Science to see some of these inventions.

In order to promote math fact fluency, our door transformed into our very own March "Mathness" bracket. Students competed in Math Knockout every Friday in March to see who was the math fact champion.

A visual voice monitor is on display in the classroom to help students self-regulate their voices and make our classroom a comfortable environement for all students and activities.

Before beginning small group instruction for the year, students and I discussed and defined what we expected from each other during small group time to help us learn best.

As part of our Community Building, students made a fabric square that represented themself. All the squares were then combined to make a classroom quilt that hung on our wall for the year as a reminder that we had to stick together!

Students practiced their division skills by sharing candy hearts on valentines day with their friends.

Our word for the year in Room 305 was Persistence. Students learned what it means to never give up and to face challenges with a growth mindset. Students also learned about famous names who took a stand during difficult times.

Students utilize the word wall to recall vocabulary words and grade level high frequency words.

Students first assignment with everyone back in school during September 2021. 

Culturally responsive classroom door including our schools initiative of "Acts of Kindness, All Day, Everyday!" Door includes ways to say "kindness" in a variety of languages.

Thanksgiving classroom door that included what students were thankful for. The door also included a 3D Turkey that the students named Jerry!

Students sit in small groups that are rotated to allow for everyone to have a chance to work together. Sitting in a group allows for student discussion and group work.

Students showed the love by selecting this as our February door decoration. Room 305 is our favorite place!

Independent Reading Tracker - Students complete a book review when they have finished a new book and add it to their bookshelf. It also incorporates language from our Leader In Me SEL Curriculum.

Students created unique snowflakes and researched how each snowflake is unique for our winter themed classroom door. 

The mirror in our classroom is an Affirmation Station. Students use this mirror and read the "I am..." statements posted around the mirror to remind themselves of all of their amazing qualities. This directly works towards our classwide SEL goal of optimistic thinking.

While teaching students about social distancing when returning in September 2020, we came up with these socially distant greetings!

Student presents his Informational Writing Piece at our Valentine's Day Writing Celebration. After each presentation, students wrote comments for the authors on our "Comment Wall".

Students made 3D snowflakes during our Pajama Party as a reward and celebration before Winter Break.

In an effort to expose students to more vocabulary and a way to introduce different describing traits, our classroom alphabet contains an attribute that begins with that letter and its definition. 

A visual schedule is posted in the classroom with times to teach students self-monitoring and pacing skills.

Students learned about the states of matter and how matter changes phases. They then used their knowledge to make the best almost end of school treat - ice cream!

Another Thanksgiving door! Students voted on their favorite Thanksgiving dessert - the winner was pie by an overwhelming amount! Teddy and Sprinkles got a vote too!

Students earn their "Super Kids" Award at a school assembly for demonstrating what it means to be an exemplar student and friend.

Students learned about the story and producer of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. After reading about the puppeteer Tony Sarg, students made their own versions of his Thanksgiving Day balloons to have their own parade.

In celebration of the 100th Day of School, students worked together to create division problems using 100 pieces of candy as manipulatives. Students were asked to identify which problems had even answers and which had remainders.

A student celebrates Heritage Day with both the American and the Dominican Republic flags!

Students learned about balanced forces and used their knowledge to make the perfect paper airplane as part of our Friday STEM challenge.

When learning about multiplication, students created monsters to show off the different ways to solve a multiplication problem.

In celebration of Black History Month, students used the book 28 Days to learn about 28 different people, important events, places, and court cases that impacted Black History.

As part of Black History Month, students completed a research biography on a famous person from Black History.
